Marvel Icon Stan Lee Passes Away at Age 95

Disney, who acquired Marvel nearly a decade ago, released a statement from CEO Bob Iger that read, "Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created".

Getting his start as a editorial assistant, Lee would go on to create or co-create some of the most iconic superheroes such as Iron Man, Thor, the X-Men, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Black Panther and more.

As Stan's roles and tenure with Timely Comics grew and evolved, so did the company itself.

As fans everywhere mourn the passing of Stan Lee, one question remains: will the late Marvel icon have a cameo in the upcoming "Avengers" sequel?

Lee died on Monday at the age of 95, but his much celebrated cameos likely haven't ended, judging from an interview that "Avengers" co-director Joe Russo gave earlier this year.

"A champion of promoting literacy and the arts, Lee founded the Stan Lee Foundation in 2010 with the goal of supporting, "...equal access to literacy and education".

Rest in peace, Stan. What a life and what a thing to have achieved.

Lee's Twitter account posted a memorial to him on Monday with the superhero creator's catchphrase: Excelsior! "I wanted this to be a surprise, but I'm personally working on a Latino hero, that you'll be seeing at the end of the year", he said at the time, according to AFP. "Your characters represented us: yes, they had extraordinary, unbelievable abilities, but they were also reflections of a world we knew, where a Spider-Man is really just a boy who wants to help".

The Marvel genius was born on December 28 1922 in Manhattan and grew up with a love of adventure books and Errol Flynn movies.

Lee was inducted into the comic book industry's Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1995. "We'll be forever richer having him with us". However, his legacy, in the characters that we love and the people that he touched will certainly live on.

Actor and musician Ice T said he was able to meet Lee before his death.

Lee is survived by his daughter, J.C.
