Gaza Rocket Barage Draws Dozens of Israeli Airstrikes

The sounds of Israeli air strikes were heard all over Gaza, prompting terrified locals to seek shelter.

Israel responded with a "large-scale" aerial operation hitting some 87 Hamas targets.

A spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister's office would not comment on the reported ceasefire.

Israel issued no statements in response to the violence, but the security cabinet is expected to discuss the ongoing Gaza conflict on Sunday.

Around the same time that the PIJ announced the ceasefire, Israel said it struck eight PIJ targets in the coastal enclave.

Conricus said Islamic Jihad had fired the rockets under instructions from Iran's Al Quds Force based in Syria and said that Israel was considering taking action against the Iranians in response.

Restrictions remained in place, however, limiting gatherings outdoors to 100 people and those indoors to 500.

The Gaza targets included weapons production sites and a factory that makes parts for subterranean tunnels, the army said, adding that the later was near a school.

The Islamic Jihad movement declared, on Saturday, that it has reached an agreement to ease violence between the besieged Gaza Strip and Israel, as a result of Egyptian mediation efforts.

"We have seen and established a clear link between Gaza and Damascus", he said, adding that Israel's response will not be "limited geographically".

Stating that residents of the South and "the citizens of this entire country" are "held hostage by a terror organization", Hasson claimed that Netanyahu "has no policy nor strategy, and he is enabling the continued Hamas rule in Gaza to avoid [having] a diplomatic process with the Palestinians".

Israel views Hamas as ultimately responsible for any attacks emanating from the territory it controls, regardless of the source.

Friday's rocket fire began in the evening, triggering red-alert sirens across the Gaza periphery.

The spokesman for the Gaza Ministry of Health, Ashraf al-Qidra, said one of the Israeli airstrikes on the northern Gaza Strip overnight wounded nine Palestinian civilians and badly damaged Rumah Sakit Indonesia Hospital in Jabalia, located four kilometers north of Gaza City.

A sixth died when a hand grenade he was holding exploded accidentally, witnesses said.
