Cosby sentencing caps fall from 'America's Dad' to convicted felon

Two of the women who have accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault decades ago have said they hope he will be sentenced to prison time this week.

Cosby, who once had a family-friendly reputation as the 1980s television comedy "The Cosby Show", was convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand, a former administrator at his alma mater Temple University, at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004.

Cosby's lawyers are expected to ask the judge to let him remain free on bail, as they plan to appeal the conviction.

His lawyers have said he will appeal the conviction, which observers say could push the case up to Pennsylvania's highest court and take several years. Constand filed a lawsuit against Cosby for the abuse in 2005, but the case did not move forward until 11 years later in 2016, after more than 40 other women spoke out with their own allegations of sexual abuse by Cosby.

Cosby, who became known as "America's dad" as the star of his "The Cosby Show" sitcom, faces a maximum sentence up to 10 years in prison for each of the three counts, though sentencing guidelines may lead the judge to a lesser sentence.

When a grainy video of standup comedian Hannibal Buress making a joke about Bill Cosby's rape allegations on an October night in 2014 went viral, the rallying cry of #MeToo was years away.

Powers added that Grande was in regular contact with him about Miller's health. A friend claims that Grande wanted him to be healthy more than anything else.

If the sentencing exceeds two years then Cosby will have to go to state prison, Valentino said the women would feel validated and vindicated to see him walk out of the courtroom in handcuffs.

To Cosby's advantage, it doesn't appear that the prosecution has been effective in getting its way.

Some legal experts have said they don't think Cosby will spend any time behind bars.

That Cosby's sentencing coming is as the same week as Ford's testimony before the Senate is certainly a coincidence.

Prosecutors want some of Cosby's 60 other accusers to testify Monday to show that a pattern of sexual misconduct makes him a predator and a danger.

Lublin said Cosby assaulted her in 1989 while Lasha said she was assaulted in 1986 when she was an aspiring actress. If that happens, he will be obliged to register as a sex offender for life, instead of for a shorter timeframe decided by a judge.
