Kavanaugh Accuser Faces Death Threats Ahead Of Senate Hearing

Kavanaugh Accuser Faces Death Threats Ahead Of Senate Hearing

President Donald Trump continued to stand behind his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Tuesday, even as senators grapple with how to move forward after a woman has accused the judge of a decades-old sexual assault. The two appeared before a special Judiciary Committee hearing, told their separate stories, and Thomas ultimately was confirmed, 52-48.

"Her worst fears have materialized", the letter said.

"It kind of raises the question, do they want to come to the public hearing or not?"

She said it's "shocking but not surprising" that President Trump does not believe that the FBI should investigate the allegations against Kavanaugh. That is where things get into a bind for Democrats who might have been looking to court GOP senators on the fence about supporting Kavanaugh. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the senior Democrat on the Judiciary Committee. She alleges that back then, Kavanaugh and his friend cornered her in a bedroom at a house party in Washington where the future judge groped her.

A Justice Department spokesperson said in a statement on Monday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation forwarded the letter it received last week from Feinstein, which described the initially confidential allegation of sexual assault against Kavanaugh, to the White House Counsel's Office.

Having given Ford until 10 a.m. Friday to submit testimony for a scheduled hearing Monday, the Senate Judiciary Committee has yet to say whether it will change the date of that hearing, or accept any of Ford's demands.

"I have never done anything like what the accuser describes - to her or to anyone", Kavanaugh said Monday.

Putin says Russian Federation found men accused of Skripal poisoning
Moscow continues to deny everything, claiming the attack was staged by Britain to stoke up anti-Russia sentiment in Britain. Putin and Russian Federation have vehemently denied having anything to do with the poisoning.

The allegation now threatens to inject a potentially heated "he said-she said" battle into the looming midterm congressional elections. "We want to hear both sides", President Trump said.

"Monday is her opportunity", Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said yesterday, a line that was echoed by other Republicans throughout the day.

Kavanaugh's nomination to the supreme court had looked nearly certain to be confirmed until Blasey Ford came forward at the weekend.

Questions around Kavanaugh's record, including his views on whether presidents can be criminally indicted while in office, have also swirled around his confirmation hearings.

Democrats have felt a lot more confident in recent days that Kavanaugh's nomination could be toast, but that newfound optimism might evaporate if Ford decides not to attend the hearing. She escaped only when a friend toppled them, she said. "I think the Republicans have had the upper hand this week, because it started with this shocker on Sunday in the Washington Post".

Democratic committee members say their request to the FBI is not for a criminal investigation, but "appropriate follow-up" to the FBI's background investigation.
