Serena Williams receives cookbook from Meghan Markle

Serena Williams receives cookbook from Meghan Markle

Markle showed gratitude to the women for embracing her into their kitchens and for partaking in the cookbook, which she called a "tremendous labor of love".

Doria Ragland joined Meghan and Prince Harry Thursday at a London event to launch a new cookbook for a communal kitchen Meghan is supporting.

There was a large range on the menu, including coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala and a range of chapatis and sharing dips.

Sitting in the front seat of a Land Rover Discovery with her daughter and son-in-law, Prince Harry, in the back, Ragland stepped out to greet waiting guests at Kensington Palace for the launch of Together: Our Community Cookbook.

Meghan arrived at the event, wearing a $1,195 (approximately) £697 petrol blue coat by Canadian brand Smythe, with a black rollneck by Tuxe and a skirt by Misha Nonoo.

Meghan was inspired by the project and how it empowers women at a grassroots level.

The 23-time Grand Slam victor had to undergo another operation shortly afterwards for a large hematoma in her abdomen. However, Williams isn't letting anything impact her game as she's still vying for her 24 Grand Slam title.

Speaking at today's lunch, the Duchess said: "I had just recently moved to London and I felt so immediately embraced by the women in the kitchen - your warmth, your kindness, and also to be able to be in this city and to see in this one small room how multi-cultural it was".

The book launch took place hours after it was revealed the Duchess had knocked both Jamie Oliver and JK Rowling out of the charts - before her book even went on sale. "I'm serious", she told the women, adding that Markle "felt very much at home" while working in the kitchen.

Meghan helped put the group in touch with a publisher and her Royal Foundation provided assistance with legal and administrative issues.

The "Together: Our Community Cookbook", a collection of 50 recipes from the diverse users of the communal kitchen at the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, will be used to allow the project to expand and open for up to seven days a week.

"I said in the foreword that this is more than a cookbook, and what I mean by that is the power of food is more than just the meal itself, it is the story behind it". "When we get to know the story of the recipe, you get to know the person behind it".
