Steve Yzerman stepping down as Tampa Bay Lightning general manager

In some of the most unexpected and shocking news in recent memory, Steve Yzerman is reportedly stepping down as the general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and he will be moving into an advisory role for the final year of his contract. The 53-year-old Yzerman spent the past eight seasons as Tampa Bay's GM, a tenure that included five playoff appearances, three trips to the conference final and an appearance in the 2015 Stanley Cup final. "We have a plan here".

Muliple reports have indicated that Yzerman informed the Tampa Bay Lightning that he'll be stepping down as general manager, a position he's held in Tampa Bay since 2010.

BriseBois has always been target for GM roles around league.

"I am 100 percent confident that Julien Brisebois is the right candidate and the right person to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning", Vinik said. "The mission is going to be the same".

The 23-time Grand Slam victor had to undergo another operation shortly afterwards for a large hematoma in her abdomen. However, Williams isn't letting anything impact her game as she's still vying for her 24 Grand Slam title.

Yzerman was named the Lightning's vice president and GM in May 2010, four years after working in the Detroit Red Wings' front office.

That, coupled with Red Wings' GM Ken Holland inking a two-year extension last spring, will start the rumor mill that Yzerman could return to the organization where he spent all 22 seasons of his National Hockey League career.

Current Red Wings general manager Ken Holland signed a two-year deal this summer to remain at the helm.

On top of his duties with the Lightning, Yzerman served as executive director of Canada's entry at the 2014 Sochi Games, which also won gold. Detroit is in rebuilding mode, while Tampa Bay has become a perennial contender and will again be a championship favorite this season. "If not this year, beyond".
