Tesla shares fell as much as 10% to $252.25 as of 9.46am in NY, the steepest intra-day drop since June 2016.

Tesla shares were volatile Friday morning amid a flawless storm of chaotic news for the embattled electric carmaker. Yet the incident could revive questions about whether Musk is the right person to lead Tesla.

San Francisco - Tesla founder Elon Musk sipped whiskey and puffed a little weed while musing at length about artificial intelligence, colonizing space, and the need to give love a chance.

Morton's departure further roiled the company which has been under heightened scrutiny since Musk's chaotic announcement on August 7 on Twitter that he was considering taking Tesla private, a plan that was reversed two weeks later.

The latest drop in Tesla's stock has caused Consumer Edge analyst James Albertine to call for the company to appoint another senior leader to support Elon Musk.

Even before Musk's surprise August 7 tweet that he had funding "secured" for a go-private deal, Tesla had been under scrutiny from investors, analysts and short-sellers as it works to hit production targets and slow its cash burn.

"I have a design for a plane", said Musk (partial transcript via The Verge), adding, "I've thought about this quite a lot, quite a lot".

Musk took the already-lit blunt from Rogan and had one puff, but it appears that he did not inhale, meaning he likely did not feel the effects of marijuana. The joint was provided by Mr Rogan, who said it was legal. "It's probably not wise", said Musk discussing kicking a robot.

The announcement sent Tesla stock surging by more than 10 percent.

Musk's fears on the subject of AI are well documented, but he told Rogan that he worries about it less these days because he has adopted a "fatalistic attitude".
