Perseid Meteor Shower 2018 Weather Forecast: Smoke May Screen Out Western US

The annual Perseid shower peaks this weekend between the nights of Saturday, August 11, and the wee morning hours of Monday, August 13. "As long as you have clear skies and you're away from the city, you should have a good show".

Even if you find ideal urban viewing conditions, there are a lot of other factors that can affect whether you see meteors, including whether the sky is clear and the properties of meteors themselves.

The Perseids are named after their radiant point of origin in the constellation Perseus.

"Residents of the Northern Hemisphere including Qatar will have a good chance to observe the Perseid meteor shower", QCH astronomer expert Dr Beshir Marzouk explained.

The summertime meteor shower, the Perseid, is set to peak August 11, 12 and 13.

The stars are aligning for anyone interested in watching the Perseid meteor shower this weekend.

According to the Sun, the cosmic event, nicknamed the "fiery tears of Saint Lawrence", occurs when the Earth moves through the trail of debris left by the Swift-Tuttle Comet.

The festival is aligning with the Perseids meteor shower.

According to Space.com, during peak hours people should see about 60-70 meteors per hour.

The shower will be visible to the naked eye. This matter is what makes for meteor showers, as they burn up, due to friction, while entering the Earth's atmosphere, making them look like shooting stars. The meteors can appear anywhere in the sky, but they look the brightest against the darkest sky, which is straight up. They say the further you are from artificial lights, the better the view will be. Scientists from NASA also said that camping out in the country can triple the amount of visible meteors.

Mr Masi said: "Perseids never disappoint the observer - they are one of the best astronomical shows off the year and we just need our own eyes to see them".
