Trump calls European Union a 'foe'

Trump calls European Union a 'foe'

With Trump set to have a closed-door meeting with Russia President Vladimir Putin on Monday, it's clear that The Donald is creating a larger divide between us and our true allies while getting closer with the leader of the same country that meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

The United States will not look for "deliverables" from Monday's summit with Russian Federation, stressing that talks will be "unstructured", USA national security adviser John Bolton said on Sunday.

EU's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, also said the United States has remained a "friend" of the 28-nation bloc, adding "a change in the administration does not change the friendship between countries and peoples".

"We could start there", says Dingell.

European Council President Donald Tusk faulted Trump's comments, insisting the U.S. and EU "are best friends", and claiming that anyone who said they were foes "is spreading fake news".

The US has no extradition treaty with Moscow and can't compel Russian Federation to hand over citizens, and a provision in Russia's constitution prohibits extraditing its citizens to foreign countries.

In the CBS News interview, Trump said he's entering the Helsinki summit with "low expectations".

After Glor noted that the European Union was at the top of his list, Trump replied: "I look at them all".

Trump heads into the summit with little clear agenda other than to strengthen his personal rapport with Putin, which he thinks is crucial to improving relations between Washington and Moscow.

"Not welcome", read one sign, held by Hemmo Siponen, showing a cartoon of Trump and Putin embracing.

Trump Says European Union Is America’s Biggest ‘Foe’
A senior White House adviser on Sunday also downplayed the meeting, saying the USA was not seeking any "concrete deliverables". President Donald Trump is setting low expectations for his Monday's summit in Helsinki with Russian President Vladimir Putin .

Speaking to ABC's This Week, national security adviser John Bolton said: "The United States does not have an extradition process with Russian Federation so it's pretty hard to imagine how that would happen".

The call happened a few weeks after Putin showed the video during his address to the Russian parliament and before his re-election, Axios reports.

"I think we could probably get along very well".

President Donald Trump named the European Union as a "foe", along with Russian Federation and China.

The Kentucky senator added, "I think we have to protect ourselves".

Trump has said he will raise the issue of Russian election meddling, along with Syria, Ukraine, nuclear proliferation and other topics.

A total of 64 per cent of people questioned said they saw the USA leader as a greater threat to world peace than Mr Putin (16 per cent).

Rather than condemnation, Trump's first public comments on the indictments merely noted the fact that the hacking occurred under the Obama administration, rather than his own presidency - a line he stressed again during the CBS interview. Mr Putin has repeatedly denied that Russian Federation sought to skew the election.

"I love those countries".

Huntsman was interviewed on NBC's "Meet the Press", Paul appeared on CNN's "State of the Union", and Bolton and Murphy spoke on ABC's "This Week".
