Deadly package explosions in Austin may be a hate crime

Deadly package explosions in Austin may be a hate crime

Residents of Austin, Texas, are being asked to report any suspicious packages as police investigate three explosions that took place after people handled boxes that had been delivered to their homes. He also said police are looking at any link between the three victims.

That explosion was followed shortly by a blast at another home several miles away.

A woman has been badly injured, according to the Associated Press.

The victim in that explosion, Anthony Stephan House, died from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. "Until we find who committed this act and take them into custody, it is appropriate for residents to be concerned if you receive a package that you were not expecting, a package that is not marked properly, or is not from someone that you know". She was reported to be in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

The three explosions occurred in different parts of east Austin, which is east of Interstate 35, the highway that divides the city. A woman in her 80s is reportedly being treated for an "unrelated medical issue".

Two parcel bombs rattled the U.S. city of Austin on Monday, 10 days after a similar deadly blast, as Texas police said they were investigating the possibility that the attacks were serial hate crimes.

"We believe these cases are linked at this time", Manley said.

Officers said the suspect did not have permission to be at the home and was stealing the victim's property.

The second explosion occurred before 7 a.m. on Monday, killing a 17-year-old boy and wounding an adult woman.

The ED opposed Sibal's contention that Karti should be allowed to withdraw the petition and approach the high court. Karti was arrested by the CBI from Chennai Airport on February 28 in connection with the case.

Manley said investigators have figured out what the first device was, but they're withholding some details "to protect the integrity of the investigation".

A second package was discovered near the site of the initial Monday explosion, and some residents and media members were evacuated or pushed farther from the blast site as authorities determined whether it was a bomb, Manley said.

Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said the two incidents displayed enough similarities to investigate them together. A 17-year-old boy was killed and a woman in her 40s was seriously injured.

The FBI is helping Austin police in the investigation.

In the package explosion on March 2, Austin police responded to a home in the 1100 block of Haverford Drive around 6:55 a.m.

APD is asking anyone with information to contact them.

Police believe both explosions are connected to another blast that killed a man on his front porch on March 2. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found that the explosion happened in the kitchen of the home.

But once the second bomb exploded Monday morning, police reclassified House's death as a homicide and added it to a broader investigation.
