Liverpool have won seven and drawn two of their last 10 league games and will be eager to continue to harvest points when they host 15th-placed Newcastle United on Saturday.

At today's press conference leading up to tomorrow's Premier League game between Liverpool and Newcastle United (coached by former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez), Klopp was discussing the health status of some of his players.

"The best team we had was the team that finished second in the league with 86 points". Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain drove through the centre and fed Mo Salah for the finish.

Newcastle's determined defending was denying Liverpool space, but Salah dallied when he could have fired at goal, Lejeune recovering to make a block. Subs: Lallana 5, Milner 5. Subs (not used): Darlow (gk), Clark, Manquillo, Ritchie.

40' - GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle. The forward coolly fires home after a superb, probing run from Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Just two goals between Salah, Firmino and Mane is a relative quiet day by their own high standards and the impact of the trio was initially softened by Newcastle's stubborn defensive showing. Can and Firmino up the ante and tee up Mane to lash into the corner from just inside the area. "I wouldn't say we have no chance to win the game afterwards, but if the ball is in then it changes the game, for sure". Can would get a second opportunity from a free kick shortly after. Newcastle get away with one, but it won't affect the result.

200 - Sadio Mané's goal was the 200th that Liverpool have scored in the Premier League under Jürgen Klopp. He has had a hand in 31 goals in the Premier League this season, with 23 goals and eight assists. Robbie Fowler (1994-95) and Daniel Sturridge (2013-14) have also achieved the feat.

There was a suggestion that long-term injury sufferer Nathaniel Clyne could potentially make his return against the Toon after recording 90 minutes for the Under-23's midweek, but the Anfield boss insists it is still too soon for first-team football for the Englishman.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes the competition for starting places within his fully-fit squad will motivate his players to elevate their game even further.
