Michigan State Basketball: 5 takeaways from comeback win vs. Penn State

The Penn State Nittany Lions will play the Michigan State Spartans in one of the SEC college basketball games on Wednesday, start time at 6:30 PM ET, at Breslin Center, East Lansing, Michigan.

It was the fifth straight win for Michigan State (21-3, 9-2 Big Ten), which hits the road for two straight against IN on Saturday and Iowa on Tuesday. That's when they went on the run, and that's unfortunate because I'd like to see our five versus their five for a longer time because I think Michigan State knows that we're a pretty good basketball team. A 9-4 run by the Spartans put the home team up by five with 8:39 left to play as Watkins sat for the second time after picking up his third foul just 90 seconds into the second half. The sophomore hit four 3-pointers in the game, giving her 10 games this season with 3-plus makes from distance.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Isaac Haas had 20 points and nine rebounds, Carsen Edwards scored 17 points and No. 3 Purdue pulled away from Maryland to extend the nation's longest active winning streak to 18.

WACO, Texas - Lauren Cox scored 23 points and had nine rebounds, Kalani Brown added 19 points with 18 rebounds, and Baylor beat Oklahoma State. Bridges and Nick Ward tied for the game high with nine rebounds. In league play, he's averaging 17.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 46.5 percent on 3s.

Prediction: Penn State will win against the spread.

But Michigan State came alive from that point, scoring 12 straight to tie the game at 41 after four straight from Winston, the last two on a pull-up jumper in transition with 12:03 left in the second half.

Two More in Double-Figures - Sierra Calhoun and Alexa Hart each reached double-figures with 12 points on the night.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Kelsey Mitchell scored 27 points to move into fourth in NCAA history for Ohio State.

Ray Spalding scored 16 points and Deng Adel had 15 points for the Cardinals (16-6, 6-3).

After a flurry of fouls called both ways to begin the second half, Penn State regained a double digit lead. Carter led Penn State with six points in the quarter, while Mavunga has 11 tallies for Ohio State in the second 10 minutes. At that point, though, the Spartans woke up and played much smarter with the ball.

Although it forced the Nittany Lions to shoot under 44 percent from the floor in December, Iowa never led at any point.

Fourth Quarter The Buckeyes extended their lead in the fourth quarter behind three scoring spurts, including an 11-5 run to end the game. All of these numbers rank at the top of the Big Ten's goaltending charts, so Penn State's dynamic offense has a daunting challenge in front of it. Five different Lady Lions scored in the final frame, led by six points from Travascio-Green on a pair of 3-pointers. Michigan State wound up topping Penn State 74-68. The game will be carried on BTN2go.com and the BTN2go app, as well as on the airwaves of the Penn State Radio Network.
