Zinedine Zidane makes a shocking claim after Copa Del Rey defeat

Few teams that exhibit just how great the financial divide is in modern football have done so much, with so little, for so long.

Zinedine Zidane has admitted he faces the possibility of the sack if Real Madrid fail to beat PSG in the Champions League after his side were knocked out of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday evening.

It's as if the footballing Gods have ripped up the script for the season, condemning Madrid to constantly drop points at home and stripping Cristiano Ronaldo of his ability to finish.

Leganes won 2-1 to progress into the semifinals overcoming Real Madrid, a feat they would like to put on top of everything they have achieved so far as a club.

"I don't know if this is the worst season in Madrid's history, but that doesn't bother me". "It doesn't matter to me". We did what was asked of us in the first, but we can't start a game like we did today.

It is not, but it could be soon.

Sydney train accident: passengers trapped and injured at Richmond station
A train has hit the buffers at Richmond station, in Sydney's north-west, with reports of multiple injuries. At the time of writing, ABC News has reported that as many as 20 people were injured in the incident .

With the daunting prospect of facing Paris St Germain in the Champions League next month, Zidane is coming under intense scrutiny after a run in which Real have won just two of their last six games in all competitions. But the confidence was no where to be found, the team was a shadow of the force they were last season as they failed to avoid yet another low key display this season. Furthermore, in Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe, they possess Europe's most exciting attack.

With a squad so rich in talent, Zidane will have no excuse if Madrid fails to reach the semifinals for a second consecutive season. "I need to take responsibility and I'll always fight".

There are plenty of problem areas and Madrid's disjointed displays at the Bernabeu in 2017-18 will be a concern.

It's the second consecutive year that Madrid have been eliminated in the Copa quarter-finals, having lost to Celta Vigo last season. Another editorial is headlined: "Zidane is under more pressure than ever before". Even with Sergio Ramos back in the team on Wednesday, there was no improvement in that area.

Zidane has led Real to back-to-back Champions League titles, two FIFA Club World Cups, and the La Liga championship.

Coutinho has been cleared to make his debut at Camp Nou as Barcelona look to overturn a 1-0 defeat to Espanyol in the first leg of their quarterfinals clash.
