Google Lets Users Mute Repetitive Remarketing Ads

Many people harbor a strong dislike for auto-playing video ads, a sentiment that has since prompted Google to implement a "website mute" option for regular offenders.

Google has had the feature "mute this ad" since 2012. This will work on PCs and Android devices, providing the company running that ad has partnered with Google.

Google plans to expand the feature to its other services, such as YouTube, Search and Gmail, in the coming months. So, for example, if you purchased a pair of shoes and are exhausted of seeing Nike ads months after, you can go into settings and mute the company. If they mute an ad for that hotel booking site on their smartphone it will also be muted on their notebook.

Google (GOOG, GOOGL) rolls out a way for users to block "reminder ads" that follow the user across numerous webpages. This, obviously, will remove reminder ads from the company's entire domain - it's not item-specific. Apparently, this change was worth it, as Google is doubling down by introducing even more new settings options for advertisements, like disabling "reminder" ads and synchronizing "Mute This Ad" settings across devices.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Gives Democrats a Boost in 2018 Midterms
The court gave the General Assembly - which remains under Republican control - until February 9 to submit redrawn lines to Gov. The plaintiffs had argued the map violates the Pennsylvania Constitution's guarantees of free expression and equal protection.

It's worth noting here that reminder ads will only be muted for "at least" 90 days, and it's not entirely clear at which point the ads may become un-muted. Users will be able to silent the ads in the third-party apps and websites that use Google Ads. Muting "reminder ads" takes this a step further by allowing you to mute ads that you may have once been interested in but for one reason or another no longer are - for the time being, at least.

From Your Reminder Ads, users will be able to see the companies that are now remarketing to them via Google's ad network and opt to mute them individually as shown in the gif below.

The expansion of this tool will likely lead to more ads getting removed and provide more relevancy signals to Google to improve targeting and performance.

Google is about to make the internet a much more bearable place by letting users mute reminder ads. Google is now working on integrating websites into its new system.
