South and North Korea Hold Series of Talks Over a Month

The North Korean delegation for Monday's meeting included Hyon Song Wol, leader of the all-female Moranbong Band.

North Korea has reiterated that the return of a dozen citizens who arrived in South Korea in 2016 is a precondition for resuming reunions of families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War, Japan's Kyodo news agency reported, citing sources. The proposal requires International Olympic Committee approval. If the two Koreas participate in the Olympics as a unified team, the Kim and Kam pair will not be able to compete.

The two sides agreed to hold more working-level talks Wednesday.

These were the first working-level talks since the North agreed last week to send a delegation to the Games, set for February 9-25, in what was interpreted as a thawing of relations.

North Korea likely considers negotiations over participation of its propaganda squads more important than those regarding its athletes.

Some 700 came to the 2002 Asian Games held in Busan city and 273 athletes from the North took part in the Incheon Asian Games in 2014. Others speculate the North wants to use the Olympics to show it's a normal country despite possessing nuclear weapons. Critics question how long the warmer mood can last without any serious discussion on the North's nuclear disarmament.

Abbas calls Trump's peace efforts 'slap of the century'
Palestine's official WAFA news agency reported that the Committee convened in Ramallah ahead of a central council meeting of the PLO on Sunday.

In the article, the regime even threatens in a veiled way not to attend the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, underlining that "train and bus carrying our delegation to the Olympics are still in Pyongyang".

"The South Korean authorities had better ponder over what unfavourable results may be entailed by their impolite behaviour". With a recent influx of North Korean soldiers attempting to defect and North Korean fishermen pursuing more bountiful and risky bounties in the open ocean, it's clear that previous sanctions have begun to have an affect on the North Korean people... but continues missile testing clearly indicates that Kim has been willing to allocate what little resources he has available to weapons programs rather than the well being of his populace. They also committed support for inter-Korean talks and cooperation for the Olympics. The US is beefing up its presence around the peninsula in what it describes as routine training and scheduled upgrades.

Saying that the two sides have just "begun to kindle the flame for reconciliation", the commentary charged that Moon's attitude "casts doubt as to his intent to improve the north-south ties and build confidence".

A North Korean diplomat in Geneva said: "The IOC will have no say on the art team".

Also discussed in the meeting were legal issues facing South Korean adoptees in the U.S. Kang said some South Korean adoptees were living with fear of deportation, without having acquired U.S. citizenship because of institutional or family issues.
