Metro Detroit residents in Hawaii react after emergency alert mistakenly sent out

The U.S. state of Hawaii was sent into a panic on Saturday when an emergency message went out to cellphones there warning of an impending ballistic missile strike. "We are doing everything we can immediately to ensure it never happens again".

More than 30 minutes after the alert went out, the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency put out a tweet saying there was no incoming missile.

Ige said on Sunday that the government would investigate the incident, which involved an employee pushing a wrong button during a shift change on Saturday morning.

Vern Miyagi, the agency's administrator declined to say what action would be taken against the employee.

US military spokesman David Benham later said US Pacific Command "has detected no ballistic missile threat to Hawaii". "THIS IS NOT A DRILL", the last words read.

Here's what the alert looked like for iPhone users.

Carrey, who woke up to the alert, later tweeted his frustration.

Marathon runner Lucja Leonard said she had heard of children being "pushed into drainpipes to get them protected". She awakened her 16-year-old daughter with the news.

Actor Jamie Lee Curtis said Trump should blame himself for the fear that families felt.

"There is a screen that says, 'Are you sure you want to do this?'" Miyagi said, adding that the employee "feels awful about it".

Meanwhile, the Big Bang spin-off Young Sheldon isn't going anywhere, as it was renewed for a second season on Saturday. The show is produced by Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak.

Miyagi said he meant to produce a report about the incident by next week.

"This will not happen again", he added. The people of America should not be faced with this threat right now. "You don't get a do-over for something like that". "There is no missile threat or danger to the State of Hawaii".

Ajit Pai, chairman of the US Federal Communications Commission, announced the investigation on Twitter. We understand that false alarms such as this can erode public confidence in our emergency notification systems.

Emma Hine, who is visiting Hawaii from the United Kingdom, told the BBC: "It was one of the worst experiences because I actually thought we were going to die". Hawaii's economy depends heavily on tourism.

North Korean President Kim Jong-un has threatened to unleash his country's growing missile weapon capability against the US territory of Guam or against USA states, prompting President Donald Trump to threaten tough action against Pyongyang, including "fire and fury".

In July, the state of Hawaii released official guidelines on how to survive a nuclear detonation. "I think we just take it for granted that we'll always be safe and, really, it's kind of important to know what those are before the time comes".

State officials said a "cancellation template" would be created to address the problem, the New York Times reported.

The erroneous message came after months of soaring tensions between Washington and Pyongyang, with North Korea claiming it had successfully tested ballistic missiles that could deliver atomic warheads to the United States, including Hawaii's chain of volcanic islands. They were in the auto, three hours from their hotel, and Knight said when they heard the news the vehicle went silent.

Trump was wrapping up a round of golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, when the incident was unfolding. After being told about the alert, White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said it "was purely a state exercise".
