Syrian State Media Claims Turkey Aiding Rebel Counterattack in Idlib

Three children were killed along with four other civilians in the village of Khan al-Sible in southern Idlib on Friday night, as Russian Federation and the regime intensify airstrikes on the rebel-held province.

On Jan. 8, Russian Federation averted an attack by 13 drones on its Syrian installations, 10 attacking its Khmeimim Air Base and three of them on the Tartus naval base, according to Russia's Defense Ministry.

If it is recaptured, the airport will be "the first military base in the hands of the regime in Idlib province", said Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman.

"The operation is to hit the belly of the regime deep into liberated territories and to encircle their advancing forces", said Abdul Hakim al Rahamon, a senior official in Jaish al Nasr, an FSA faction taking part. A Syrian military source denied this and dismissed rebel talk of a counter-attack as propaganda.

The presence of militants within southwest Aleppo is confirmed by the fact that Syrian army-led forces advancing towards government positions in eastern Idlib via Khanasser have encountered resistance from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters.

Sixteen jihadists and rebels were killed in the counter-attack as they sought to cut off regime forces at the airport from their rear bases, the Britain-based war monitor said.

However, opposition groups are reported to have made substantial gains in the south of the region since yesterday, allegedly making use of Turkish supplied weaponry, including armoured vehicles, mortars and rockets.

The ministry concluded by saying that France, whose people have suffered from the terrorism, should have its diplomats take clear stances regarding terrorism.

Around 1,337 civilians were killed a year ago in regime-surrounded Eastern Ghouta due to rising Bashar al-Assad regime attacks, according to the White Helmets.
