Sumpter Twp. couple wanted for murder of girl, 4, arrested in Georgia

Sumpter Twp. couple wanted for murder of girl, 4, arrested in Georgia

A MI couple wanted in the death of a four-year-old girl have been captured, according to WXYZ out of Detroit.

Fields was also charged as a habitual offender, police said.

"Upon arrival, CPR was being administered by family members and officers found the child suffering from severe burns about her extremities", according to a news release.

According to police, the girl was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

The coroner ruled the death a homicide due to signs of battered child syndrome.

Police say Diaz and Fields are driving a 2002 black Chevy Cavalier with the MI license plate of DTR1854.

Wayne County prosecutors have charged Candice Diaz, 24, the little girl's mother, and Brad Edward Fields, 28, with the preschooler's stomach-turning murder.

If you see Diaz and Fields, you should not confront them but call police. "When Gabby came over, she never had any marks or bruises on her", she said.

Police officials said Gabby's autopsy found multiple traumatic injuries on her body, as well as evidence of old injuries that were consistent with ongoing child abuse, according to police officials.

"She didn't have to pass the way she did but I hope we get justice for her really soon", Kyle Barrett, Gabby's father, told WJBK.

Gabrielle's aunt, Leah Barrett, 16, said her family never knew of the violence occuring at the mother's home.

Michigan State Police and the state's Child Protective Services agency are investigating.

Diaz pleaded guilty to two charges: possession of prescription forms and altering ID marks on a firearm, online court records show.

Barrett's grandmother, Deborah Barret said: "She was a ball of joy".

A GoFundMe page initially set up to help her family bury her has since been removed, but a second one has been established. "She would run around the house when we had her, always with a big ol' smile on her face".

Police announced Monday a manhunt is on for Diaz and Fields.
