Trump Is America's 2nd Most-Admired Man

Gallup said about one-quarter of respondents could not name a man or woman they admire most, roughly similar to last year's share who offered no opinion in response to the question. That means she has won the title more than any other woman, with Eleanor Roosevelt coming in second with 13 wins.

After Trump and Obama, other men who top the list include Pope Francis, with 3 percent of the polling; Rev.

While Obama managed to be at the top for a 10th year, he has some way to go to match his female counterpart, Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump is president, but Barack Obama is still the most popular figure in USA politics.

Gallup's December poll, published Wednesday, found 17 percent of respondents named Obama the man they admired most, a dip from 22 percent of respondents saying the same a year ago.

Although Trump won easily among Republicans, with 35 percent naming him as the man they admire most, Obama led among both Democrats, with 39 percent naming him, and independents, with 12 percent saying they admire him most, according to the results.

Obama retaining his title this year is a bit unusual. Obama is only the second former president to finish first in the list-along with Eisenhower in 1967 and 1968, while Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson was finishing up his time in office.

Wednesday's poll said 17% of its participants most admired Obama. The incumbent president is usually the victor, "since he is arguably the most prominent figure in the country", Gallop stated in its news release.

The poll, which has been taken every year but one since 1946, questioned 1,049 United States adults from December 4-11.
