Trump and Melania send warmest wishes for Kwanzaa

Those in the audience got a lesson on the week-long celebration that involves seven principles, one for each night.

So, for anyone unfamiliar with the day and how it's celebrated, here's everything you need to know about Kwanzaa.

The celebration lasts for seven days to honour the seven principles founder Karenga chose to celebrate, otherwise known as the Nguzo Saba. Kwanzaa begins on December 26 and lasts until January 1.

In New Britain, Trinity on Main is to host Kwanzaa Celebration 2017 on Saturday from 7-9 p.m.
