Dubai Airshow has been flagged off by Emirates with massive Dh55b order

Dubai Airshow has been flagged off by Emirates with massive Dh55b order

The future of the A380 has become a dominant talking point at this year's aviation expo in Dubai, after Airbus failed to clinch a widely expected deal on the first day of the event.

The deal is the 'largest single commercial announcement ever for Airbus eclipsing the 2015 deal with unrelated Indian airline IndiGo for 250 A320neo aircraft listed at $26 billion.

The end of the year will see flydubai have a fleet of 61 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, in addition to a pipeline of 70 aircraft due for delivery by 2023.

Similarly, Airbus could see yet more orders before the year is out: this week it signed a provisional agreement with Kuwaiti company Wataniya Airways - which operates medium-haul flights across Europe and the Middle East - for a possible order of 25A320neo jets.

Indigo Partners' mega deal shows the continued growth in the low-cost and ultra-low-cost segment of the airline industry. Indian low-priced airline IndiGo (which isn't connected to Indigo Partners) bought 250 Airbus jets in 2015.

The U.S. aerospace company said that FlyDubai of the United Arab Emirates has committed to buy 175 of its 737 Max planes and will have the rights to buy another 50. If the deal translates into firm orders, it would represent Airbus' biggest sale to a single buyer as measured by the number of airplanes, according to CNN. It's an even bigger deal with the impending retirement of long-time sales boss John Leahy.

"An order for 430 aircraft is remarkable, but it's particularly gratifying to all of us at Airbus when it comes from a group of airline professionals who know our products as well as the folks at Indigo Partners do".

FlyDubai said the planes would bring the low-priced carriers total fleet on order up to 320.

Earlier this week, Ahmed Jazzar, Boeing's Saudi president, told Bloomberg that Saudi Arabian Airlines, the state-run carrier, would be a great fit for the plane.

The package technically covers four separate agreements jointly negotiated through Franke as a common investor, and Airbus billed the deal only as a record "announcement". "We look forward to the 787 becoming an integral part of EgyptAir's fleet as we progress our modernization and network expansion plans", Safwat Musallam, chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Holding Co., said in a news release.
