Butch Jones ousted at Tennessee

Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman was the first to report the news late Sunday morning.

Taylor is at least the second Tennessee commit to open things back up following the firing of Vols HC Butch Jones earlier on Sunday. The Vols are 0-6 in SEC play after getting blown out by Missouri on Saturday, 50-17.

With Jones" axing, Tennessee said it will now conduct an "exhaustive search' to look for its fifth coach in 11 years.

The Volunteers are 0-6 in the Southeastern Conference this season with a 4-6 overall record. "I want to make clear that we are intensely committed to hiring the best coach for Tennessee". Jones has gone 34-27 during his Tennessee tenure and is 14-24 in the SEC.

However, Jones did help produce nine National Football League draft picks during his Tennessee tenure and his players collected 18 All-SEC awards and 108 received SEC Academic Honor Roll honors.

Tennessee (4-6, 0-6) managed just 285 total yards. The Vols followed up that Georgia defeat by losing four of their next five games.

The Vols lost to LSU in that season's SEC Championship and beat Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl.

Under Jones, the Vols didn't achieve the success they experienced in the 1990s.

According to ESPN, defensive line coach Brady Hoke will take over as interim coach for the remainder of the season. Hoke has a career coaching record of 78-70 between three jobs with Ball State, San Diego State and MI. Hoke could possibly be a head coach again, but after his disappointments at MI and at OR as the Ducks' defensive coordinator, scoring a job at a top program in the near future is extremely doubtful.

Dooley, Johnny Majors, Doug Dickey and Bowden Wyatt are the only Tennessee coaches to endure one-win conference campaigns.
