Koenigsegg Agera RS Is Now The World's Fastest Car

Swedish auto maker Koenigsegg broke the record for the world's fastest production vehicle (which means that the vehicle is sold to consumers and legal to drive on public roads) on Saturday with its Agera RS, which hit an average speed of 277.9 miles per hour during two runs on a closed, 11-mile stretch of highway in Nevada, according to Top Gear. Part of that speed verification is in video form below.

That record had been held by a Hennessey Venom GT which was recorded at 270.5mph in 2014.

Factory driver Niklas Lilja, who completed the run, said: 'I wasn't nervous.

Previously the world record was held by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport which clocked 269.86mph in 2010. The Agera RS bests Bugatti's record of 265.7 miles per hour by over 12 mph-a record set by the French firm's Veyron Super Sport back in 2010.

All that remains is for the world speed record, which was recorded and verified by Racelogic, to be officially recognised.

Broadcom offers to acquire Qualcomm for $70 per share
Broadcom said if the deal is approved, it expected a combined company to have revenues of about $51 billion. The forward price-to-earnings ratio for Broadcom recently stood at 14.6, slightly above its 13.5 average.

Koenigsegg also claims to have set another record on the day. On one run Lilja reached 271.2 miles per hour, and on the other he reached 284.6 miles per hour.

The French carmaker originally set the record for a test they invented in just 42 secs, adds the newspaper, but this was quickly beaten by the Koenigsegg Agera RS's time of 36 secs.

Hennessey is claiming its new Venom F5 may be able to break 300 miles per hour.

The Agera RS has a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing a staggering 1,380bhp.

The test was then carried out using Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres which are the tyres the Koenigsegg is sold with and are authorised for use on the road.
