Two-thirds of United States baby food tested positive for arsenic, unsafe toxins

Two-thirds of United States baby food tested positive for arsenic, unsafe toxins

A new study by a watchdog organization is getting a lot of media attention because it found that most baby foods and formulas contain at least trace amounts of contaminates - including lead, arsenic, cadmium and acrylamides - that can be unsafe to children in large doses.

More than a third of the baby food tested have lead. Hence certain rules and regulations should be laid on these baby food and infant formulas products to reduce its toxic effects and also provide optimum health benefits. All these brands scored a two out of five on the non-profit organization's toxicity report card.

About 80 per cent of infant formula contains arsenic.

The Clean Label Project also reported that, in looking only at the infant formulas they tested, 80 percent of them contained higher than acceptable levels of arsenic. Rice often absorbs arsenic from contaminated soil as it grows in the environment.

MORE | The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has information on arsenic in rice and rice products here.

Firstly, the Clean Label Project did not publish their research in a peer-reviewed journal, and had not published any data to substantiate its claims at press time. Several studies have already found traces of the said chemical in rice-based food products. There are strict regulations on lead, though many experts think those need updating because no amount of lead is safe.

Song Review: Taylor Swift's 'Gorgeous'
In the past, Swift's references to eye color have been a veritable decoder ring to real-life lyrical assignations. Just before midnight Friday morning Taylor Swift released yet another single, " Gorgeous ".

Five-hundred baby food products were tested.

The researchers noticed that the toxic chemicals like arsenic, lead and other are present in the baby products like snacks, drinks, and infant formulas.

According to environmental protection agency, low levels of lead in children's blood have been connected to lower IQs, slowed growth, behavioral problems, hearing issues and anemia.

"It is important for consumers to understand that some contaminants, such as heavy metals like lead or arsenic, are in the environment and can not simply be removed from food", Peter Cassell, a FDA spokesperson, told USA Today.

Geber responded to this study and declared that it is an unnecessary warning to the people and their food meets USA government standards.
