Iran supreme leader Khamenei says Trump talking nonsense

Iran supreme leader Khamenei says Trump talking nonsense

"I don´t want to waste my time on answering the rants and whoppers of the brute USA president", Khamenei said in a speech to students in Tehran, published on his Telegram channel.

"Trump's stupidity should not distract us from America's deceitfulness. I don't think there is a majority in the U.S. Senate that wants to abolish the deal".

He said Mr Trump was "mad" because Iran was spoiling United States "plots" in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Egypt, according to an account of the meeting with the students that was posted on his official website.

His comments followed Mr Trump's announcement on Friday that he would not re-certify the landmark deal, which saw Iran suspend elements of its nuclear energy programme in exchange for a relaxation of sanctions.

He said Iran would stick by its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, which Trump has threatened to "terminate" unless the US Congress tightens sanctions on the country. "That it is possible to renegotiate bad agreements, it's possible to renegotiate a flawed agreement and take out the flaws and presently President Trump's strategy to reopen the Iran agreement, to remove the flaws and produce an agreement that will safely protect the interests of the West is the only reasonable approach".

The U.S. Congress now has about two months to decide whether to reinstate sanctions. Pouyanne has said Total would withdraw from Iran if obliged by law.

Massive wildfires engulf north San Francisco counties
Sunday, had burned between 8,000 to 12,000 acres south of Lake Berryessa and off of Atlas Peak Road, according to Cal Fire. Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency in Sonoma, Napa and Yuba counties because of multiple fires in the areas.

In a major shift in US policy, Trump also said Washington will take a more confrontational approach to Iran over its ballistic missile program and its support for extremist groups in the Middle East.

"They must avoid interfering in our defense program". Why do you have missiles yourselves? "We will not accept the Europeans going along with America's bullying". "Why do YOU have nuclear weapons?"

"Or if they ask, 'Why does Iran have missiles?' then our response is, 'Why do they have missiles and nuclear weapons?'"

"To ask the same thing (as the Americans) about why Iran is present in the region - well, deal with it".

If the deal falls apart, Iran's anti-Western hardliners will gain authority in a backlash against pragmatic President Hassan Rouhani, who engineered the accord to help end Iran's political and economic isolation, analysts and insiders say.
