The train was given a out of course halt at Chiplun and passengers were attended by railway doctor, mentions the statement. According to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) officials, while the onboard catering is handled by IRCTC, the food in the train is provided by a third party contractor. "Though they were given immediate medical attention, I am tensed about my son as he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit", Raman Taing said. The train was on its way from Goa to Mumbai when passengers complained about their deteriorating condition. "This is unfortunate and strict action would be taken against all those responsible", said the official. The other 14 taken to hospital as a "precautionary measure" were discharged. Around 12pm, 3 passengers complained that they were feeling uneasy and felt like vomiting. Officials added that the food sample of breakfast and soup was sent for testing.

The IRCTC also said that a probe has been launched to ascertain the source of food poisoning. "This was also confirmed by on board manager Ashish who regularly monitors this train", Pinakin Morawala, chief public relations officer, IRCTC said. "Director Catering service is proceeding to Mumbai to follow up the matter". His son Purohit was admitted to Lifecare Hospital.
