Rahul needs to remove Italian glasses to see development: Shah

As the state assembly polls get closer, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress are throwing their weight for the campaigning even as the Election Commission of India (EC) is likely to announce the poll dates in a week or so.

The rally was marked by attempts by Patidar community members to disrupt it.

Addressing a gathering later, Shah accused three generations of the Congress party of having "insulted" Gujarat.

During his recent visit to state, Rahul Gandhi had questioned BJP's Gujarat model of development where he termed it a failure by mentioning that no jobs were created. "We are seeking an answer from you (the Congress) for injustices that the three generations of your rule did to us", the BJP president said.

"The third generation of (Congress leaders) Sonia Gandhi and Rahul have done injustice to Narendra Modi, and Gujarat seeks answer for that", he said.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba's hamstring injury will keep him out "long term", says manager Jose Mourinho . United host Palace tomorrow (3pm) hoping to take up top spot in the Premier League.

Rahul Gandhi will need to remove his "Italian glasses" and wear "Gujarati glasses" to be able to see the kind of development the BJP has ensured in the state, the party's chief Amit Shah said today in Gujarat's Porbandar, where he launched the second part of a Gujarat Gaurav Yatra (march for honour) ahead of assembly elections at the end of the year. "This model is Gujarat's pride", Shah said.

Swain's comments were in reference to the viral social media campaign in Gujarat against the alleged misrule of BJP in the last 22 years. The focus of the yatra is to highlight the achievements of successive BJP governments in the state. Many analysts suspect that to avoid the conversation about its track record on governance in Gujarat, Shah and his senior colleagues may prefer to raise other mundane issues primarily to divert people's attention from development.

Before the rally, Mr. Shah and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani paid tributes to Sardar Patel at his ancestral home.

On Sunday, Shah flagged-off the fortnightly Gujarat Gaurav Yatra from Sardar Patel's birthplace of Karamsad, where he launched a fierce counter-attack on Congress after Rahul Gandhi's fairly successful three-day yatra in Saurashtra recently.
