Cleveland Police Unhappy with Anthem Protests, Won't Hold Flag at Browns Opener

As reported previously by The Root, on August 21, a dozen Browns players knelt or stood in a circle of solidarity during a preseason game against the New York Giants, including, for the first time, a white player. The protests are more directly aimed at the police members who would otherwise be attending and holding the flags. Moreover, he blames Browns management for the protest taking place in the first place, insisting that they permitted it.

A team spokesman has said the organization respects the anthem and flag but also respects personal expression.

Two weeks ago, as many as 13 different players on the Cleveland Browns put the sports world on notice when they all kneeled during the playing of the National Anthem, just before their nationally televised game against the New York Giants. "The fact that management was aware of what they planned on doing, that's as offensive as it can get", he added.

When the employees of the Browns are on the clock, they represent management just as we do while wearing a Cleveland Police uniform. "That's why we aren't going too". Coach Hue Jackson said he does not want to see players sitting or kneeling during the anthem, but that may be about him trying to control the situation as a coach as much as anything.

Cardinals trade Leake to Mariners for minor league shortstop
Leake has been one of the most durable starters in the National League but has not been at his best since the All-Star break. The Mariners and Cardinals are both now on the periphery of their leagues' Wild Card races.

Loomis also told Cleveland.com that he felt offended because players not are disrespecting those who protect and serve the nation. And it's quite clear that, even though not everyone will agree with the message, the Browns players are trying to promote unity and kindness to other humans in a peaceful way.

Sunday night Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams issued a statement to the City of Cleveland regarding the police department's relationship with the Cleveland Browns. "The Division of Police is in no way boycotting the Browns, nor denying participation in events with our officers".

Under Loomis' direction and over the strong objection of minority officers, the Cleveland Police Patrolman's Association endorsed Trump's candidacy during the general election, the first time their union has ever publicly endorsed a presidential candidate.

Moving forward, I can tell you that we within the Cleveland Division of Police are in communication with the Cleveland Browns Organization as we have been in the past.
