Aegis Combat System Fires Two Standard Missile-6 Against Ballistic Missile Target

Aegis Combat System Fires Two Standard Missile-6 Against Ballistic Missile Target

Sailors on the USS John Paul Jones, a guided-missile destroyer based in Hawaii, conducted the test.

Wednesday's move by the USA came after a series of North Korean missile tests and threats by Kim Jong Un. On Tuesday, the UN Security Council strongly condemned the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's action to launch a missile over Japan earlier in the day, as well as the series of launches that took place on August 25, 2017. Monday's intercept test, like others the USA has conducted, was long planned, the MDA said.

This test marks the second time that a SM-6 missile has successfully intercepted a medium-range ballistic missile target, officials said.

Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missile traveled around 1,677 miles and reached a maximum height of 341 miles as it flew over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

It was reported that the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kaua'i launched the target missile late yesterday, Tuesday, Aug. 29.

TDP scores a big victory in Nandyal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had aided in the development of Nandyal by sanctioning funds under AMRUT, the MLC said. However, the opposition YSR Congress (YSRC), which lost the bypoll, said the setback was "temporary".

The test, called Flight Test Standard Missile- 27 Event 2 (FTM-27 E2), demonstrated the integrated capabilities of the Aegis Weapon System and how it has continually evolved to counter advanced threats.

This is not the first time the US forces have conducted this sort of test.

"We are working closely with the fleet to develop this important new capability, and this was a key milestone", in advancing the capability to intercept missiles, said Lieutenant General Sam Greaves, the director of the Missile Defense Agency, which is part of the Defense Department.

The ground-based interceptor system was designed mainly to counter a North Korean missile threat, a US official said at the time.
