TDP scores a big victory in Nandyal

TDP scores a big victory in Nandyal

The TDP won in Nandyal for the first time after 1999.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had won the Nandyal byelection in Andhra Pradesh with an overwhelming majority of 27,466 votes on Friday, giving a boost the mid-term optimism of the government headed by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.

According to sources close to Mr Reddy, Mr Kishor's team had predicted a 6,000-vote victory for YSRC candidate Shilpa Mohan Reddy over TD candidate Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy. In all the rounds TDP is ahead of YSR Congress.

The TDP maintained its sway nearly throughout the counting, barring a couple of rounds.

When the 12th round of counting began, Silpa Mohan Reddy left the counting hall silently after coming to grips with the reality that his defeat was certain. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had aided in the development of Nandyal by sanctioning funds under AMRUT, the MLC said. Candies were distributed and crackers burst.

Nandyal witnessed high-voltage and acrimonious campaign led by Chief Minister and TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy.

"People have endorsed development agenda, upheld values in public life".

The bypoll was necessitated after the death of Bhuma Nagi Reddy, who had quit the YSR Congress party to join the ruling TDP a year ago. Rejected and punished negative politics & disorderliness, he tweeted. However, the opposition YSR Congress (YSRC), which lost the bypoll, said the setback was "temporary". All the party members and the people are waiting to know the Nandyal Bypoll election results.
