Woman survives 28 days in woods by eating mushrooms, berries

A missing Alabama woman has been found alive after being reported missing almost a month ago, according to Alabama NBC affiliate WSFA. Sgt. Chad Faulkner, lead investigator on the case, said they are still gathering details regarding the home burglary and the investigation is still ongoing, but the most important issue for Theris is her health. She'd originally run into the nearby woods after two men she was with burglarized a hunting camp on July 17 - she did not know about or want to be a part of the burglary.

Sheriff Rodgers said because Lisa Theris is not familiar with the wilderness region of Alabama, she likely got lost in the woods after running away from Davis and Oswald and got lost when it turned dark.

Specialists say the sheer will to live kept Lisa Theris going.

A woman saw "something moving in the bushes" while driving along a motorway, Sheriff Raymond Rodgers told local media. "And maybe she could give us some insight and fill in the blank spaces".

The two men, Manley Davis, 31, and Randall Oswald, 36, were arrested and charged following the theft of $40,000 (£31,100) worth of goods, including four-wheel drive cars and chainsaws. "She was drinking water out of a brook and eating berries and mushrooms", according to Sheriff Rogers. After being treated at an emergency room, she was reunited with her family. "I gave her a hug and said, 'You poor thing".

She had been lost for a considerable length of time and confronted intense conditions in the forested areas. By the time she was rescued this weekend, she had lost 50 pounds.

As for new information, officials will only say the whole story hasn't come out.

Australian Olympic legend Betty Cuthbert dies, aged 79
Cuthbert, the only athlete to ever win gold in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, died aged 79 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. MARLENE MATHEWS , Cuthbert's greatest Australian rival - "I have never met anyone that had such great faith and determination".

'She is severely weakened, she is in pain, she is emaciated, ' Theris' sister Elizabeth said.

In the interim skeptics continue to question Theris' 'adventure' and her degree of involvement in the burglary of a hunter's lodge and how in fact she did manage to stay alive on nothing but berries and wild mushrooms....save for one young woman's will to survive.

Will said his sister was in critical condition when she arrived at the hospital.

'We are lucky that she is alive, she is so strong and has made it through so much.' .

"She has some complications and has a lot of healing to get through but she is standing strong and full of jokes as ever", her brother, Will, said.

Faulkner said Theris' survival has been a "relief" to the entire department.

'The next few weeks will be rough, but she is handling it all like a trooper, ' he added.
