Philadelphia Eagles: CB Ronald Darby now a member of the Birds

The Buffalo Bills announced a blockbuster trade Friday afternoon, trading star wideout Sammy Watkins and a 2018 sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second-round selection.

Matthews, the Eagles' second-round pick in 2014, was among the most productive receivers in National Football League history in his first three seasons. The move seems shocking to many fans as the team made a big trade to go up to No. 4 in the 2014 NFL Draft to acquire him. But the Eagles signed free-agent receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith in the offseason, drafted Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson and have been pleased with 2015 first-round pick Nelson Agholor's improvement.

Buffalo's overall approach with these trades, and specifically the loss of Watkins, can not sit well with starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Taylor took a $10 million pay cut in March to stay with the Bills, saying at the time he was putting his trust in management to fill in pieces around him after Taylor dealt with a lackluster group of receivers over his first two seasons as the starter.

The strengths of Landry and Cutler is one of the bigger question marks regarding the personnel fit for Cutler. Meanwhile, backup Matt Moore is stuck in the quarterback equivalent of the friend zone.

Darby is listed at 5-foot-11, 193 pounds.

Last season, with Wentz under center and head coach Doug Pederson calling the plays, Matthews led the team with 117 targets. Now it looks like that roster will be built in a new direction in the coming seasons. With that number nearly certainly rising in 2017, you can expect a bump in pass attempts, which wasn't hard to do to begin with, seeing as the Bills have ranked in the bottom-two for pass attempts in each of the last two years.

Darby was a five-star recruit out of Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, considered the best player in the state of Maryland and by some services as the top cornerback prospect.

It's an interesting set of trades by Buffalo. The Patriots' pick could become a third-round if cornerback Eric Rowe, traded a year ago, gets at least 50 percent of their defensive snaps. Darby is the fourth player from the Bills to join the Eagles' defense in the last two seasons.
