Trump To Police: 'Don't Be Too Nice' With Suspects

In a rebuke to President Donald Trump, multiple police departments have condemned a Friday speech he made endorsing the rough treatment of suspected criminals and gang members. "I said, 'You can take the hand away, OK?'" continued the President.

Trump's Long Island speech was a disjointed, overblown mess.

A statement was also released by the International Association of Chiefs of Police on Friday evening, although Trump was not mentioned by name.

"The ability of law enforcement officers to enforce the law, protect the public, and guard their own safety, the safety of innocent bystanders, and even those suspected or apprehended for criminal activity is very challenging".

They'll say that's not politically correct, you're not allowed to have rough people doing this kind of work. These laws are stacked against you.

The gang speech was just the President's latest endorsement of physical violence against those detained by law enforcement. The president said his administration will dismantle, decimate and eradicate the gang.

Both Nassau and Suffolk county police departments have consistently touted historic low crime rates in the months and years before Trump's visit.

Dang MLA Mangal Gavit and Ishwarbhai Patel, another Congress legislator present at the press meet, made similar allegations. It was alleged that Scheduled Tribe Congress MLA Punabhai Gamit, a three-time legislator, was being threatened and lured.

"Few communities have suffered worse at the hands of these MS-13 thugs than the people on Long Island", said Trump, who grew up in Queens. And we're sending them the hell back home where they came from. It was the president's first speech on LI since he held campaign rallies in Bethpage and Patchogue a year ago. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has pushed for a crackdown on MS-13, which has led to hundreds of arrests in Suffolk County.

Looking around the crowd of protesters, Mr. Serrano said, "This reinforces my hope that we are going to be able to fight against this president and the machine, and all the hate that's going on".

Police organizations are reacting to President Donald Trump's comments on how suspects should be handled - and the reactions are critical.

"Police can not treat every community like an invading army, and encouraging violence by police is irresponsible and reprehensible", he said.

Trump likened the gang members to animals who "transformed peaceful parks and lovely quiet neighborhoods into blood-stained killing fields".

Trump's audience of law enforcement officers didn't seem to mind the wide variety of messages contained in the speech that felt more like a campaign message than the policy address that had been intended.
