Turkish, Egyptian FMs discuss Al-Aqsa crisis on phone

Saturday's raid took place amid increased tensions in the West Bank over Israel's tightening grip on the al-Aqsa Mosque and the security measures around it.

"Current tensions open the door for further escalation in general amid growing Palestinian, Arab and Muslim anger over the violence and the new measures taken by the Israeli authorities", he said.

The attack occurred Friday night, when a 20-year-old Palestinian, identified as Omar al-Abed, got into an Israeli household in the settlement, killing three and wounding one.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has ordered extra troops into the West Bank and the home of the Palestinian attacker who stabbed to death three Israelis on Friday has been raided.

On Friday, Israeli security forces put additional restrictions on entry to the al-Aqsa mosque, the Guardian reported, turning away women and men over the age of 50.

Israeli police have used force to disperse Palestinian worshippers near the Lion's Gate in Jerusalem.

Egypt, which now holds the Arab seat in the United Nations security council, urged Israel to stop violence against Palestinians in Al-Aqsa mosque.

Several Palestinians have been killed and hundreds more injured in recent weeks amid mass protests over new Israeli security measures at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Metal detectors installed after two Israeli policemen were killed have sparked protests by Palestinians.

Israel made a decision to install the metal detectors at the entry point to the shrine in Jerusalem about a week ago after the killing of two Israeli policemen stationed there.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, revered by Jews as the Temple Mount, is the third holiest site in Islam and the holiest site for Jews.

The assailant was shot by Israeli police and is hospitalized in Israel.

At least three Palestinians have been killed since Friday clashes.

In his televised statement, Abbas said he would dedicate $55 million to support Palestinians in East Jerusalem and called for all Palestinians to donate a day's wages to help.
