Grace records lowest round ever at men's major championship

Grace's round, the lowest in the history of the majors, saw him move from four over par overnight to four-under.

"It was a really solid round and I'm very pleased with the position I'm in", Spieth told reporters.

"It makes it even more special now to be in the history books".

South Korea's Hyo-Joo Kim holds the record for the lowest round in any major with 61 at the women's Evian Championship in 2014.

BRANDEN GRACE produced the lowest round in major history when he reduced Royal Birkdale to 62 magnificent blows. On the par-4 18th, Grace's approach came to rest off the green.

One guy that definitely saw this coming was Justin Thomas, who has a history with Miller raining on parades after shooting his own 63 at the U.S. Open last month.

The wonderful thing is, when Grace has put the finishing touches on his 8-under-par masterpiece with a tap-in par on the 18th hole, he had no idea he had made history.

In Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, Martin Sheen was in the same role to Andrew Garfield's version of the webhead. The ability to switch the head of spider-Man appears as the main feature of the current fashion.

Still coming to terms with his achievement, Grace said Rasego had probably helped him by keeping the historical context to himself. Grace, known for becoming the first player on the European Tour to win his first four titles in the same year back in 2012, overshot the green with his second shot onto the apron, but ran his putt up close to the hole and drained the par for the record.

Grace took some of the blame for his struggles, citing the tinkering nature of golfers.

The 35th-ranked player in the world picked up three more birdies on 14, 16 and the par-five 17th.

Grace, who was paired with Jason Dufner of the United States, birdied five of the first nine holes and did not shoot a bogey Saturday.

"I thought if I could make a couple more on the back nine, then it's going to be a great score". I was just trying to finish the round without a bogey. When it slowly lipped out, recalling Phil Mickelson's birdie putt in his opening round 63 a year ago at Troon, it seemed that Grace had lost his chance. Robert Streb shot 63 during the second round at last year's PGA Championship.

"And to do it at the Open Championship is pretty special".
