NSE resumes trading after nearly 3 hours, hits new high

Investors faced problems since morning in executing trade and the exchange stopped trading in cash as well as Futures and Options (F&O) segment.

It said that while the equity and currency derivatives segments were trading normally, those were also shut after informing market participants. A combined 579,483 shares changed hands on the counter on BSE and NSE so far.

Among specific stocks, shares of RIL gained in trade even as its subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm on Sunday reported a potential data breach and said it was probing alleged leakage of sensitive details including mobile numbers and Aadhar number of millions of its subscribers on the internet. "A clear framework will remove uncertainties from the minds of the traders and investors", said the former ED of SEBI.

However, a technical problem at the NSE created problems during the day. Preliminary assessment indicated a software problem.

NSE apologised for the glitch saying it is examining the matter to identify the cause. "The system was expected to be rectified quickly and shifting to the BCP site would have taken longer", it said, adding that the glitch was not related to any kind of cyberattack. Operations finally resumed at 1230 hours. "For fresh trades, we suggest waiting for some consolidation or dip in stocks and preferring hedged positions", said Jayant Manglik, President, Retail Distribution, Religare Securities.

NSE accepted that there was a technical glitch and said that it was trying to resolve the same at the earliest.

"NSE deeply apologises for the glitch".

"After the technical delay in NSE, the broad market rose to new heights supported by IT and pharma stocks which rose on the heels of positive U.S. job data", said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.
