Nearly 8000 California Residents were Evacuated From Fire

In a similar instance in Alamo, as many as 200 homes were evacuated over a fire that was first reported on Thursday.

Based on evacuation orders and warnings, a number of people stayed Saturday night at the shelters established by the American Red Cross for both the Alamo fire and Whittier fire, according to county officials.

A spokeswoman for Circle V Ranch Camp said all 90 campers and 50 counselors and staff members were escorted out by firefighters and taken to Old Mission Santa Inés in Solvang, where those from Santa Barbara County were picked up by parents and guardians.

Local firefighters left Sunday morning to help battle the Alamo fire which has charred almost 24,000 acres since sparking in San Luis Obispo County on Thursday. By Friday morning, it had charred 1,800 acres, but firefighters had made steady progress toward containment.

The Oroville fire has blackened 9 square miles (23 square kilometers) of grass.
