Donald Trump defends social media use on Twitter, goes after CNN

"I mean, they're phonies", Trump said, according to the recording.

This morning on their show "Morning Joe" and in a Washington Post op-ed, the cohosts responded to Trump's tweet storm against them. "I think that the president has been attacked mercilessly on personal accounts by members on that programme, and I think he's been very clear that when he gets attacked, he's going to hit back", she told the daily White House briefing.

"The president's unhealthy obsession with our show has been in the public record for months, and we are seldom surprised by his posting nasty tweets about us", they wrote.

Mika Brzezinski answers a question from Willie Geist on the set of "Morning Joe", as Joe Scarborough and Donny Deutsch look on.

On Sunday morning, Trump followed up his CNN tweets by posting a video from one of the president's WWE appearances, in which Trump wrestles a man to the ground - whose head, in the tweet, has now been covered by the CNN logo. "I knew immediately that it was a lie and that they had nothing".

Mika Brzezinski said Melania Trump has "the worst job in the country" after President Trump tweeted about her and fellow "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough. Scarborough also disclosed White House aides had called to threaten him, demanding he stop his criticism of Trump or else the National Enquirer would publish an unflattering story.

Fake TIME magazine covers displayed at Donald Trump's golf club locations
Meanwhile two of the same secondary headlines were featured on an actual cover featuring Kate Winslet's image, from March 2, 2009. That's because, as The Post's David Farenthold uncovered Tuesday , there was no edition of Time magazine from that date.

"I am thinking about changing the name #FakeNews CNN to #FraudNewsCNN!", another of his tweet said.

"I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore)". A spokesperson later claimed that the first lady had been "unaware" that the tweet had been added to her favorites.

But those analysts also have been largely critical of Trump.

The White House claims that we attack him.

The comments are part of a long and tumultuous relationship between Mr Trump and the hosts, who frequently welcomed the businessman as a guest on their programme during his presidential bid.

He then said that the pair came to Mar-a-Lago three nights in a row around New Year's Eve "and insisted on joining me". His description of Brzezinski, as "bleeding badly from a face-lift", is just another example of his contempt for women, and is totally inappropriate coming from the President himself.
