Minnsota woman accused of fatally shooting boyfriend in fame-seeking video prank

Minnsota woman accused of fatally shooting boyfriend in fame-seeking video prank

A 22-year-old father has died after a YouTube stunt went horribly wrong when his pregnant girlfriend shot him with a.50 calibre handgun.

Perez told police she'd agreed to go through with the video idea after Ruiz showed her a book that he'd shoot where the bullet never made it out the other side. The two cameras - which recorded the shooting - are now secured as evidence for the investigation. The book did not stop the bullet, and Ruiz was killed by a single gunshot wound to his chest. Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene. "I wish he would've just done another prank", the victim's aunt, Claudia Ruiz, told WDAY-TV.

Now, his pregnant 20-year-old girlfriend is behind bars, facing a charge of reckless discharge of a firearm.

KSTP is sending a crew to Halstad and will continue to bring you updates throughout the day.

Prior to the stunt, Perez had posted about it on her Twitter account. Sheriff Jeremy Thornton said Wednesday said she'll remain in jail and will be connected by video to a Norman County court proceeding on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Minnesota Star-Tribune. "I don't know why they thought the book was supposed to stop the bullet", his aunt said.

Kvitova wins Aegon Classic final for 1st title since attack
Kvitova surged to a 5-1 lead before Barty rallied, breaking serve and then holding to close the gap to 5-3. Petra Kvitova said she just went to Birmingham to have some coffee and play some matches.

Ruiz told the station her nephew had told her he wanted to try the stunt. "He said, 'Because we want more viewers'".

He'd been trying to convince her to shoot the book while he held it for awhile. "He had so much going for himself", said Ruiz. 'I wish he would've just done another prank.

Perez has a YouTube channel that has a few videos the couple have produced in hopes of finding fame. We want to get famous'.

In some of them Perez "pranks" a sleeping Ruiz; in one she pours hot candle wax onto his back while he's asleep, jokingly asking him if he thinks it's sexy.

Family: Perez had Aaliyah when she was 15, and is expecting a baby boy in September.
