Manchester United have now officially confirmed the signing of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof as he is their first new signing of the summer.

Lindelof has also been keen to play down his links with United in recent days, as he suggested his future has is not on his mind as he prepares for key worldwide games.

Lindelof told Fotbollskanalen following Sweden's win over France, when asked about Manchester United: "I have no comments".

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho refused to confirm his interest in Lindelof out of respect for Benfica, but it is now clear the deal was already in the works.

According to Metro, via Record, the 22-year-old is on the cusp of an Old Trafford move following United's agreement with the Primeira Liga holders.

Lindelof began his career with Vasteras SK, and moved to Benfica in 2011.

United fans would every right to be sceptical about Portuguese newspaper reports suggesting Lindelof is moving to United after their confident predictions of a move last January came to nothing.
