Apple takes the iMac Pro with Xeons and Radeon Vega graphics

Apple last updated its iMacs in fall 2015. The iMac Pro is created specifically for "power users", which will come with a 5k Retina display and 8-core Intel Xeon processor, with options up to 18-cores. Apple has declared that the new iMac will available to start to buy on Monday through apple.com, and it will be available in Apple Stores starting on Wednesday. The iMac Pro is one of the biggest announcements made so far, and it is now the most powerful iMac ever according to the specs alone. Talking of storage, the iMac Pro comes out with support for up to 128GB ECC memory and up to 4TB of 3GB/s SSD storage. Four Thunderbolt 3 ports and 10Gb Ethernet will be available for I/O as well as an array of full USBs. The new MacBook will also get a faster SSD.

Apple has just provided the tech space a sneak peek to what it calls the most powerful Mac ever made, the iMac Pro. The one difference is a drop to $1,299 for the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro.

The upgrade should come with a marginal increase in performance and battery life, however Apple didn't care to elaborate acknowledging the change is a small one, not to mention they didn't address other complaints about the latest MacBook Pros not getting enough RAM expansion or their lack of ports. The dedicated graphics card is from AMD's new workstation-class Vega series, which will allow up to 22 teraflops of half-precision floating point performance.

It will block videos that start playing automatically, for instance, and can also prevent ads from following and profiling users. It's part of Apple's effort to entice professionals with tablets that can handle many tasks previously reserved for laptops.

The iMac line is will lead off with the 21.5-inch at $1,099, the Retina 4K 21.5-inch at $1,299, and the Retina 5K 27-inch for $1,799. Both the firm's 4K and 5K desktop computers have been upgraded with new displays, which Apple claims are 43 per cent brighter than the previous generation, 7th-gen Intel Kaby Lake processors and a choice of 32GB of ram on the 21.5in model and 64GB RAM on the 27in version.

Prices remain largely unchanged despite the specs bump: the MacBook starts at $1,299, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar starts at $1,799 and the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch bar is $2,399 and up.

The iMac Pro is set to launch in December with a starting price of $4,999. The updated 13-inch MacBook Pro features Kaby Lake processors up to 3.5 GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 4.0 GHz, and the 15-inch MacBook Pro goes up to 3.1 GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 4.1 GHz.
