Britain raises terror threat level from

Armed police and officers raided a block of flats on Granby Row close to Manchester Piccadilly Station in connection with the arena attack.

Officials believe this will free up police to fight the threat of further extremist action against civilian targets, amid fears that another attack may be imminent.

British Home Secretary Amber Rudd says Manchester suicide bomber Salman Abedi was known "up to a point" to the British intelligence services and police.

The Changing of the Guard outside Buckingham Palace was cancelled on Wednesday and parliament suspended all public events.

"One thing that was very rarely shown was contact information for people in Manchester or internationally, or suggesting, for example, social media sites, official ones, for the Manchester police or local political organizations that could give information", he said.

It means military personnel will be deployed to protect key sites.

The force said because of the number of victims, that is likely to take four to five days, but some have been named by friends and family.

The bomber, Salman Abedi, was British-born and of Libyan descent.

"We ran and people were screaming around us and pushing on the stairs to go outside and people were falling down, girls were crying, and we saw these women being treated by paramedics having open wounds on their was just chaos", said Sebastian Diaz, 19.

France's Interior Minister Gerard Collomb told French television that both British and French intelligence services had information that Abedi had been in Syria.

Members of Manchester's Libyan community told CNN Abedi's father returned to Libya at the time of the revolution in 2011, while his mother stayed in England to care for the children.

"It is a possibility that we can not ignore, that there is a wider group of individuals linked to this attack", May said.

Less than 24 hours earlier the blast at Manchester Arena killed concert-goers including an eight-year-old girl and injured a further 59 people.

"In light of the UK's increase to its threat level, we now advise (travelers to) exercise a high degree of caution in the United Kingdom", a statement from the department said.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd has criticized US officials for leaking information about Abedi to the press as the investigation is unfolding.

News concerning the victims of the attack continued to trickle through on Wednesday. They will replace armed police as Operation Temperer takes effect Wednesday.

She said the threat level would remain at a heightened state as the investigation into the attack continues.
