Kvitova to decide this week on French Open comeback

Two-time Wimbledon female singles champion Petra Kvitova is "on track" to play at SW19 this summer and will make a late call on her potential participation at the forthcoming French Open, her publicity manager has confirmed.

The 27-year-old had to undergo a four-hour surgery to fix tendons and nerves in her left hand after sustaining knife wounds from an attacker at her home in Prostejov, Czech Republic, on December 20.

Her name is expected to be on the official entry list for this year's Championships, to be released tomorrow (24 May).

She will be joined...

However, a return on her favoured grass for Wimbledon, likely after a warm-up event, could be the ideal scenario after a career-threatening injury.

Kvitova was attacked at around 8.30am on December 20 by a man who gained access to her apartment block by posing as a utilities man, before holding a knife to her throat.

The draw for the French Open is due to be made at Roland Garros on Friday.

Kvitova previously said she would sign up for the Grand Slam in Paris, which begins on Sunday, in hope of competing.

She had meant to return at the French Open but couldn't recover in time for second Grand Slam. According to the spokesman, her long-term goal is "to be able to play at Wimbledon".

Her spokeswoman has however assured she will be fit for the third grand slam of the year.

Her return would also be a welcome boost for the women's Tour, especially with Serena Williams on maternity leave.
