Three Girls wins praise for Rochdale abuse scandal portrayal

They will be joined by Liv Hill, Ria Zmitrowicz and Molly Windsor, who play the three girls Ruby, Amber and Holly respectively, as well as Simon Nagra, Qas Hamid and Wasim Zakir.

Episode two finds Sara both relieved and unsurprised when the full extent of the abuse is revealed, sending shockwaves throughout the police.

Ms Oliver, played by Lesley Sharp in the TV drama, has openly criticised the way Greater Manchester Police dealt with the investigation in 2012.

Viewers commended Molly for her "amazing" and "outstanding" acting in Three Girls.

"Whereas this is too much - it made me really angry while I was playing her".

The BBC says: "The drama looks at the way in which these girls were groomed, how they were ignored by the authorities directly responsible for protecting them, and how they eventually made themselves heard".

The drama, which drew in five million viewers, recreates the trial in which eight men of Pakistani origin and one from Afghanistan were each sentenced to up to 25 years in jail for a series of serious sex offences against teenage girls.

She told ITV's Loose Women, on which she is a regular panellist: "I was so lucky".

She added: "I don't think the abuse will ever leave her again, but she is courageous enough to go through it again with us to film it".

She said: "I hope that change comes from this".

She told Screen Daily: "I was going through the education system and college".

"Normally if you do a hard scene you have a cup of tea and a bit of chocolate and come out of it".
