2 soldiers, 2 militants killed in gunfight along LoC

"The sanitisation operation is on along the LoC", the official said.

Srinagar-based spokesperson of the Indian Army, Col Rajash Kalia, confirmed the killing of three soldiers and four militants.

"An infiltration bid was foiled by alert troops along the LoC in Naugam sector". The operation which started on Saturday lasted for more than 24 hours. "Four weapons and other warlike stores were recovered at the encounter site". While two of them were killed yesterday, the army neutralised two terrorists near the Line of Control today.

However, sources said, army had cordoned off a vast area with the help of additional reinforcements to ensure that the militants don't manage to escape from the area.

He said troops of 4/1 GR noticed some suspicious movement of militants along LoC fence in Kissan Battalion area of Nowgam encounter sector in Handwara.

The gunfight, according to Indian army officials, broke out Saturday in Nowgam sector of frontier Kupwara district, 125 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The attack comes a day after Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said that the Indian forces will give "adequate response" to any form of ceasefire violation on the border which has been witnessing repeated shelling from across.
