Health care debate shifting over to Senate

Health care debate shifting over to Senate

Susan Collins of ME, says the Senate will not take up the House bill and will instead start from scratch.

The passage of a GOP replacement health care bill that narrowly passed by a vote of 217-213 Thursday was a top campaign promise by President Donald Trump and a long-sought Republican goal.

And some GOP senators are saying the House bill will be looked at in depth before it comes to a vote. "The Senate is starting from scratch". We're going to draft our own bill. They cited concerns about potential higher costs for older people and those with pre-existing conditions, along with cuts to Medicaid.

"How do we think that the mentally ill have the ability to pay the deductible on an insurance policy that they have that they can buy for $3,000?" he said.

Gillibrand and Schumer's remarks came hours after Trump urged Senate Republicans to support the House plan in a Sunday morning Twitter post.

He also claimed that Obamacare "was a lie and it is dead". Of course, the Senate is a different animal than the House.

"No I don't, because I think the micro-management of Medicaid by the federal government", Ryan replied.

Jaitley said that in case the Council is unable to complete discussions, it might decide to meet again in the "near future". Currently, there are 17 items in the negative list of services on which service tax is not levied.

Collins expressed some concerns about the House bill.

"That's the way legislation used to be passed", said Blunt, after he and other GOP senators made similar remarks last week. They pass a bill through the House. There'd be a Senate bill. "And then you go to conference and iron out the differences". Democrats also refuse to back any effort to undo Obama's law, while some Senate Republicans - Rob Portman of Ohio, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Cory Gardner of Colorado and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska - oppose the Medicaid cuts.

"If they can get rid of the word 'repeal, ' Democrats can sit down", Machin, facing 2018 reelection in an increasingly conservative state, said on CBS's "Face the Nation".

"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnellMitch McConnellTrump to nominate two energy regulators More than one-third of Americans oppose GOP healthcare bill What moderate GOP senators want in ObamaCare repeal MORE (R-Ky.) on Monday signaled that the upper chamber would take its time on legislation for reforming the USA healthcare system".

With a slim majority, McConnell can only afford to lose two votes from his party.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., seemed resigned Sunday to his chamber's bill being altered as part of a "multistage process".

Collins, however, noted that the credits aren't adjusted for variations in income and geographic regions across the U.S. That "really hurts a state like ME, where we have an older population" living in rural areas where health care is more expensive, she said. "The Senate will complete the job".
