Google unveils standalone VR headsets with Daydream

Google touted new and improved positional tracking with its "World Sense" technology, which is created to sense your head movements so you don't need to add cameras and sensors throughout a room in your house just to do VR.

Google is moving ahead with new options for virtual reality, announcing at its I/O developers conference plans for standalone VR headsets and more handsets supporting its Daydream software.

This time a year ago, Google introduced Daydream, a VR platform for Android devices that was built right into Android Nougat and supported by Google's own viewer hardware, the Daydream View. It isn't particularly new, as you've already been able to access Daydream experiences through Chrome. The new VR will no longer require cables and phone. Google's Assistant, a voice-powered digital assistant like Siri, will be available as an app, and usable on iPhones in the US first and then in Europe, Google told attendees at its developer conference Google I/O, which started yesterday. Google VP for VR, Clay Bavor announced the next flagship of LG will support the Google VR headset. In contrast to current generation devices like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, the headset will contain all the necessary machinery to operate without external assistance. The most outstanding product launched is, however, the VR headset.

To jog your memory: The Washington Post dropped what seemed to be the biggest bombshell of the Trump presidency on Monday. Former Trump aides Flynn and Paul Manafort have emerged as key figures in Trump-Russia investigation, NBC News reports .

Samsung and Google also make mid-range headsets which use smartphones to power the experience.

The standalone platform has been co-developed with wireless technology firm Qualcomm, says Alphr. Altogether, Daydream will be available on 11 devices by the end of the year.

Unlike the Daydream View, Google's rumoured headset with be a stand alone VR device, meaning no phone or PC is required. More details should arrive soon but for now, that's all we have. This essentially describes how Google's Tango system works and that is likely the base code for the new platform called WorldSense.
