Wrong-way driver killed, 2 hurt in head-on crash in Maryland

A second victim involved in the Anne Arundel County fatal crash today has succumbed to his injuries after being hit head-on while traveling Route 50 earlier today. A 14-month-old infant passenger in the Volkswagen that Murphy was driving was medevaced to Johns Hopkins for treatment.

Skidmore was driving a silver 2016 Mercedes SUV eastbound on USA 50 when he was hit head-on by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. He was taken by medevac to an area shock trauma center, where he later died. Lots of traffic, a vehicle just went the wrong way! It is still unknown where she got onto Route 50 in the first place.

Police say the woman who was killed in the crash was driving in the opposite direction on the eastbound lanes of Route 50 when she struck another vehicle. Westbound Route 50 is open to traffic. They're looking at were there any possible distractions?

"At this time, our crash team is really trying to thoroughly reconstruct this entire crash to find out, A, where this young woman got onto the highway, and why she was able to avoid any collision of this type", Russo said.

Investigators are also looking at signage on the roads and whether that had anything to do with Murphy's decision-making. Police say the preliminary investigation suggests the vehicle crossed the median before crashing.
