John Stewart teases Stephen Colbert for his 'pottymouth' on The Late Show

"The professor is a total Nazi", the host said during his "Late Show" opening monologue on Wednesday. But you know who's got really bad ratings these days? It wasn't that they didn't talk about Donald Trump, because it's not like anybody has lacked for Bee, Oliver and Colbert's thoughts on our president, but they didn't talk about anything of substance.

Ever since Colbert was handed the reigns of the Late Show from David Letterman in 2015, Stewart has played an integral part in raising the show's political commentary to new heights. As CNN Money reports, Colbert averaged 2.8 million viewers that Monday.

"I wouldn't have this gig or any gig if it hadn't been for this man", he said.

The Daily Show crew circa 2005 reminisced about Stephen Colbert's last day as a correspondent in a sketch that featured Samantha Bee, Jon Stewart, Ed Helms, Rob Corddry and "Steve Carell", played by John Oliver. That makes sense - we all remember his rallies when the crowds challenged "Treat Her Fairly!"

For anyone who missed Jon Stewart and his merry band of globe-trotting correspondents, last night's interview was must-see TV, especially the two-part final interview that made it feel as though sometimes the old gang might miss the show as much as we do.

Bank of England's Carney likely to stress virtue of patience
It raises questions as to whether the Bank's predictions are providing too optimistic a view of Brexit negotiations with the EU. Speaking in his regular press conference after today's Inflation Report, however, Mr Carney was very cautious not to offend.

"While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau", Colbert read from the letter.

"On a night like this, when James Comey has just been fired, do you miss, you know, doing a show like this?"

In this photo provided by CBS, guest Jon Stewart, left, speaks with host Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert", during the television show on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in NY.

"There are nights where I find myself sort of impotently shouting into the abyss, which if you think about it, wasn't that different from what I did on a nightly basis", Stewart said. "The things that you say, even if they're crass, even if they in some ways are not respectful enough to the office of the presidency ― we can insult". "It's nearly as if a majority of Americans didn't want you to be president".

"I do not understand why in this country, we try and hold comedians to a standard we do not hold leaders to", Stewart said.
