FBI Raids GOP Consulting Firm, Setting Off (False) Alarms Online

FBI agents executed a search warrant at a GOP consulting firm in Annapolis, Maryland, Thursday afternoon, setting off alarms for liberals and conservatives online who were convinced it was related to the Russian Federation investigation.

An FBI spokeswoman confirmed to the Washington Post that agents were "conducting law enforcement activity in Annapolis, off Main Street", where the Strategic Campaign Group's headquarter offices are located.

In 2012, president of Strategic Campaign Group Kelly Rogers registered as a lobbyist for Prince George's Racing Ventures (Penn National), which sought to build a casino in the Maryland county. The Washington FBI office said the investigation, including the raid, is being done with "fierce coordination".

Cuccinelli, a Republican, sued the Strategic Campaign Group and the Conservative Strike Force in 2014, alleging they raised nearly $2.2 million to support his campaign but steered little of that money to him.

Rogers told reporters Thursday that the FBI investigation was related to allegations in the lawsuit.

"Our suspicion is that this is just a carry-over from that", Rogers said.

Cuccinelli, the former Virginia attorney-general, sued the Strategic Campaign Group in 2014, alleging the group had formed a political action group (PAC) taking donations to help fund his campaign, but he did not see a dollar of the money. He settled for $85,000. "I think the facts speak for themselves, and we tried to give the agents all the information they could possibly need".
